Sustainable and green initiatives

At Aarhus University we aim at making our conferences more sustainable by making green choices. Here are some of the ones, you can experience during the MatchPoints Seminar 2020:

Conference materials buffet

We have replaced the usual conference bag with "a buffet" of conference material. This minimizes the use, still making sure that everyone can take, what they need. We also suggest, that our guests recycle the material after the conference, if they do not wish to bring it home.

The name tags used for the MatchPoints Seminar are made of FSC-certified paper. The accompanying key lanyard is made of recycled plastic bottles and is also sustainable. You are welcome to take the lanyard home with you. Otherwise, please return it: we gladly reuse conference key lanyards at events for Aarhus University students.

Tap water in reusable AU bottle

We offer conference participants a reusable water bottle instead of water in disposable bottles. On average, a conference participant drinks two bottles of water every day. Over the three days of the MatchPoints Seminar, that would add up to 1,500 to 2,100 disposable plastic water bottles.

What’s more, Danish tap water is very pure and delicious, so there’s really no reason to drink bottled water here.

Our reusable water bottles also reduce the consumption of plastic cups and remove the need and expense of washing up water glasses after coffee breaks.

Sustainable catering

On Thursday and Friday, lunch will be provided by Jesper Torvekøkken, a catering service that uses organic, seasonable and local ingredients wherever possible. Lunch on Friday will be meat-free.

Jespers Torvekøkken works constantly to improve the sustainability of its operations. Specifically, the kitchen has replaced all single-use packaging with biodegradable packing made of ingredients such as maize, as well as focusing on reducing food waste and the conversion of food waste to sustainable energy. More

We recommend hotels and restaurants that have a sustainable profile. We care about food waste and we aim at minimizing the printed material for the conference and use FSC-paper.

Take the ‘walking bus’ and reduce your carbon footprint

We have introduced a walking bus option Thursday and Friday morning. Reduce your carbon footprint while getting fresh air and an opportunity to network on the walk from downtown Aarhus to the Aarhus University venue. Students will be ready to walk you from your conference hotel to the venue. Please be ready at the hotel lobby at this time (precise pick up time will be updated later).

Walk from Wakeup Aarhus (approx. 30-35 min.)

Walk from Scandic Aarhus City (approx. 25 min.)

Walk from Cabinn Aarhus (approx. 20-25 min.)

Walk from Radisson BLU Scandinavia (approx. 30 min.)

Alternatively, we recommend that you arrive at the conference by public transportation – or carpool if possible. Public transportation in Aarhus
